He was predeceased by: his daughter Kirsten M. "Kirby" Backlin; and his parents, Lawrence Backlin and Charlotte Backlin (Ringdahl). He is survived by: his wife Shirley A. Backlin (Anderson); his children, Wendy S. Duncan (Philip) of Auburn, Cheryl A. Scanlon (Daniel) of Auburn and Timothy D. Backlin (Lori) of Auburn; his grandchildren, Bethany Dattolo (Randy), David Duncan (Molly), Marcus Backlin (Elena), Nicholas Scanlon (Marcia), Jenna Viscount (Edward), Erin Scanlon, Matthew Backlin and Kayla Backlin; and his great grandchildren, Abigail, Noah, Emmalyn, Elijah, Logan, Calvin, Judah, Evangeline, Callah and Renee. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
