He was loved and cherished by many people including : his parents, Esther Buren and Kenneth Van Buren; his wife Pat Van Buren (Houle); his children, Martin Van Buren (Robin) and Karen Van Buren Derksen (Pete); his grandchildren, Clay Denman, Sarah Derksen-Zhou, Mitch Derksen, Samantha (Derksen), Harper (Evan), Bernie Derksen, Danielle Van Buren, Olivia Van Buren, Colton Derksen and PJ Derksen; and his great grandchild Chase Harper.
