He was predeceased by: his parents, David J. Lear and Agnes J. Lear (Nangle); his wife Rose Patricia "Pat" Lear (Starr); his daughter Jane P. Easton (James) of Brockton; and his sister Ruth Mills.

He is survived by: his children, David M. Lear (Deborah) of Yarmouth Port, Stephen P. Lear (Laura) of Wellfleet and Donna T. Regan (James) of Braintree; his grandchildren, Rachel, Jessica, Jimmy, Danny, Kenny, Caitlyn and Meghan; and his great grandchildren, Amelia, Eliza and Caroline. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews.
