He is survived by: his wife Joanne Marie McKeown Nelson; his children, Joanne Nelson-Holzman (John Holzman), Carolee F. Salerno (Mark), Douglas P. Nelson (Susan) and Nicole M. Nelson; his grandchildren, Alexander Salerno, Donald E. Nelson, II (Kristinka), Garrett Nelson, Valendina "Dina" Salerno, George Nelson, Marissa Rosenberg (David) and Rylie Sarmento; and his siblings, Jean Kuehl, R. Michael Nelson and Peter Nelson. He is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews.
