Mary Margaret Shepherd Obituary

Mary M. Shepherd, 98, formerly of Centerville, MA, passed away peacefully, on February 9, 2026, in Summerville, SC. Born in Brookline, MA, she was the second of six daughters born to Charles Edward and Dorothy Paula (Sullivan) Lacy.

She attended St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic School in Brookline through high school. Mary continued her education at Kathleen Dell Business School and later trained as a dental hygienist. Her work history included the Honeywell Corporation of Boston, The Freedom Foundation of Valley Forge, PA and private dental practices.

Mary and her husband, Raymond E. Shepherd, who preceded her in death, were married for 54 years and were blessed with two daughters. They raised their family on Long Island, NY and spent a few years in PA before retiring to Cape Cod, MA. It had been their long dream to move back to the state where they both had been raised. They enjoyed many happy years there.

She was a devoted mother, sister, cherished grandmother, grateful great-grandmother and aunt who built a life defined by faith, unconditional love and a nurturing spirit that extended to all who knew her. Known for her tireless passion for gardening, she could always be found tending to flowers and vegetables in her vibrant gardens that were a testament to her patience and green thumb.

A woman of immense gratitude, Mary found joy in the simple pleasures of life and taught her children the value of kindness and faith. Her home was a haven for friends and family to gather to enjoy a delicious meal, heartfelt laughter and the serene beauty of her gardens. She will be missed tremendously by her loving family who will forever carry her spirit in their hearts.

Mary is survived by her daughter's Anne Shepherd-Knapp (Stephen) of TX and Carol Lintner of SC. She has seven cherished grandchildren: Elizabeth Knapp (Henry Chan), Stephen Knapp, Katherine Viddivo (Nick), Meghan Rodriguez (Matthew), Mary Lacy Simmons (Kevin), Kelly and Nicholas Lintner. Her nine great-grandchildren include Connor and Isla Viddivo, Mary and Catherine Chan, Thomas and Timothy Knapp, Theresa and Charles Simmons and Shepherd Rodriguez. Mary is also survived by her youngest sister, Katherine Ryan (Thomas), and several wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law Nicholas P. Lintner, and sister's Dorothy McCann, Carol Nagle, Beatrice Doucet and Augusta Lacy.

A funeral Mass to celebrate her life will be held at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Centerville, MA, at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, April 18, 2026. Burial will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Centerville, MA.
