We announce the death of Elisabeth B. McDonnell of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, who passed away on October 5, 2026, at the age of 90. Elisabeth will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. Elisabeth will be remembered for the impact she had on the lives of those around her. Friends, family, and colleagues will cherish their memories and the time shared. Those who knew Elisabeth will remember moments of kindness, warmth, and presence. Though words cannot fully capture her life, the legacy of connections and experiences remains. Elisabeth’s absence will be deeply felt by those who valued her companionship.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Hermann Heinrich Ludwig Knieriem and Anna Lina Else Bernhardine (Maletti); and her husband Francis Aloysius McDonnell. She is survived by: her children, Frank McDonnell (Val Romano) of Northhampton, MA and Stephanie Haynes (Edward) of Chelmsford, MA; her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Kathryn, John and Meghan; and her caregiver Visiting Angels of Tufts, VNA.
A Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, October 23rd 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Church (191 Elm St, Pittsfield, MA 01201).
Memorial donations may be made in Elisabeth's memory to the Chelmsford Senior Center, 75 Groton Rd., North Chelmsford, MA 01863.
