He was predeceased by: his parents, Manuel Sousa and Isabelle Sousa (Periera); and his siblings, Angelina, Aurelia, Clarice, Mary, Albert, Alfred, Anthony and Manuel.
He is survived by: his wife Edith "Penny" (Olsen); his children, John B. Sousa, Jr. (Nancy) and Jane M. Farnworth (Sousa) of Rocklin, CA; his grandchildren, Elicia Cheney (Christopher Cheney) of Provo, UT, Benjamin Farnworth (Amber) of Idaho, Troy Farnworth (Bristyn) of Idaho, Brielle Farnworth of Los Angeles, CA and Erin Sousa of Chelmsford; his great grandchildren, Olivia Cheney of Provo, UT and KenneDee Farnworth of Idaho; his siblings, Isabelle McGonigle (Sousa), Michael Sousa of Chelmsford and James Sousa of Chelmsford; and his brothers-in-law, Alexander Olsen (Paula Olsen) of Littleton, Everett Olsen, Jr. (Susan) of North Chelmsford and Norman Olsen (Suzanne) of Lowell. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
