He was predeceased by: his parents, Ben Alston and Rebecca Alston (Gamble); his brothers, Benjamin Snipe, Paul Alston, Henry Alston and William Alston; and his wife Phyllis Patricia Alston (Ford).
He is survived by: his children, Dwayne Scott, James Alston Jr., Jason L. Alston (Jillian), Rebecca T. Scott (Kenneth), Patricia S. Alston, Maria L. Alston and Christina Elaine Ford; and his sisters, Rosetta Anderson, Mary Alston, Delores Goolsby, Veronica Alston and Caroline Alston. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family.
