He was predeceased by: his parents, Julius J. Mekal and Antoinette A. Mekal (Skowronek); his wife Bettyann Mekal (Phaneuf); and his brothers, John and Robert "Bobby" Mekal.
He is survived by: his sons, Zachary Mekal (Kristyn) of Cumming, GA and Ben Mekal (Elissa) of Milton, MA; his siblings, Thomas Mekal (Betsy) of Chicopee, Steven Mekal (Donna) of Chicopee and Joan Morneau (Al) of Holyoke; and his grandchildren, Camryn, Jacoby and Conor. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, November 28th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, November 29th 2025 from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the Grise Funeral Home (280 Springfield St, Chicopee, MA 01013). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday, November 29th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the St Rose de Lima Church (600 Grattan St, Chicopee, MA 01020). A burial was held on Saturday, November 29th 2025 at the Calvary Cemetery.
