We are sad to announce that, on January 17, 2026, at the age of 83, Barbara A. McNamara (Clinton, Massachusetts) passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

As we bid farewell to this cherished soul, solace is taken in the memories held dear — the laughter shared, the wisdom imparted, the moments of quiet reflection in their presence. Though Barbara may no longer walk among us, her spirit lives on in the echoes of her kindness, the warmth of her embrace, and the light of her enduring love.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Joseph McNamara and Anne McNamara (Ford). She is survived by: her brother Paul J. McNamara; her nephew Jason McNamara (Michelle Medas); and her cousin Elaine Devaney.

Ms. McNamara was inducted into the National Security Agency Hall of Honor in 2020 and recognized for her contributions to our nation as a pioneering leader at NSA who helped shape modern U.S. Intelligence operations and strengthen national security.

“Barbara was a force of nature, a patriot, a true leader, and a technical expert. I knew her at NSA and on various boards after she retired. I cannot count the number of times a Marine would tell me “this NSA senior named McNamara gave me great advice or mentoring recently,” sometimes rough mentoring when needed, but she helped everyone of any rank if they were willing to work hard and help the NSA mission.
