He was predeceased by: his siblings, Ramonita Rivera Tirado, Adalberto Rivera Tirado, Juan Bautista Rivera Tirado and Felix Rivera Tirado; his great grandchild Eli Xavier Mendez; and his parents, Jose "Pepe" Rivera and Guadalupe "Lupe" Tirado Rivera.

He is survived by: his wife Ana D. Rivera; his children, Rev. Angel Mendez (Kennia), Luis Mendez (Candice), Bernie Rivera, Jr. (Gloria) and Myrna Matos (Francisco); and his siblings, Rafael Rivera Tirado, Carmen Socorro Medina, Carlos Rivera Tirado, Eugenia María Rivera Tirado, Sylvia María Rivera Tirado, María Magdalena Rivera Tirado and José Carlos Rivera Tirado. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
