He was loved and cherished by many people including : his parents, Frances McElwain Wakeman and Samuel Wiley Wakeman Sr.; his wife Linda; his children, Neely (Peter) and Wiley (Lok Ting); his stepchildren, Heather and John; his sisters, Nancy, Judy and Susie; and his granddaughters, Mabel, Theodora, Wilhelmina, Madeline and Tilyard.

“I was in DTD with Sam. He was a fun-loving big guy, very down to earth for a New Englander. Our dates dubbed him "Beautiful Sam". Just today I was shocked to read of his passing in the Lafayette Alumni magazine - explains why I failed to reach him via email, text or voice message. I am heartbroken that I wasn't able to reconnect with him as I have with his & my fellow Delts including Pete Turrell who also died. So much to reminisce. My condolences to family.
