He is survived by: his wife Laura Atherton of Cohasset, MA; his children, Sarah Barton (Scott) of Wellesley, MA and Leigh Atherton (Tracie) of Greenville, NC.; his grandchildren, Henry Barton, Charlotte Barton and Niah Atherton; and his siblings, Susan Pollock (Steve) of Novato, CA and William Atherton (Ursula) of Madeira, Portugal..
