He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Thomas McCool and Anna Elizabeth McCool (Hewson) of Woburn, Massachusetts.; his grandson Aidan Kennedy McCool; his former wife Mary Ellen McCool (Sullivan); and his brothers, Richard McCool and Patrick McCool.

He is survived by: his son Joseph Daniel McCool (Kristin McCool); his grandchildren, Lindsay of Amherst, Erin of Amherst, Matthew of Amherst and Sean of Amherst; his children, Attorney David Francis McCool (Ginger Kennedy) of Nahant and Lorna K. Gillespie (Craig Gillespie); his grandchildren, Madeline and Drew of Methuen, Massachusetts.; his stepdaughter Nancy (Bob) of Danvers, Massachusetts.; and his siblings, MaryLou Martin (Robert Martin) of Woburn, Cathy Marvin (Charles) of Florida, Trudy Iwanski (Chet) of Connecticut and Thomas McCool of Vermont. He is also survived by three children and a proud grandfather.
