He was predeceased by: his father Alfred August; his father-in-law Salvatore Ferrera; and his sister-in-law Dina Ferrera. He is survived by: his daughters, Amanda Benson and Andria Faiella; his son-in-law Ryan Benson; his grandson Eric Benson; his mother Barbara August; his brothers, Sean August and Scotty August (Joanne Schettino); his mother-in-law Angela Ferrera; his brother-in-law Michael Ferrera; his niece Angela Ferrera; his nephew Michael Ferrera, Jr. (Kaitlyn Ferrera); his sister-in-law Angela Frangolini (Pat Frangolini); his nephew Christopher Frangolini (Kendall Marcus); and his niece Nicole Frangolini (Brian Murphy).
In the summer of 2020, during the height of the pandemic, Paul transformed a simple concrete slab in his East Boston backyard into a tropical oasis.
