He was predeceased by: his parents, Jose F. Melo and Maria Agusta Melo (Ferreira); and his siblings, Joao Melo, Maria Jose Ferreira, Antonio Melo and Manuel Melo.
He is survived by: his wife Maria Melo (Pereira); his children, Constance Ciolfi (late Steve) of Fall River and Joseph D. Melo (Melissa) of Tiverton, RI; his grandsons, Randy Melo (Debora) and Jacob Seth Martin (Holly Soares); and his great grandchild Sawyer Valentina. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
