He was predeceased by: his siblings, Robert Potvin, Jeanne Pelletier, Lauretta Michaud, Marguerite "Peggy" Landry, Normand Potvin, Alfred "Pete" Potvin Jr. and William Potvin; and his parents, Alfred Potvin, Sr. and Germaine Potvin (Bonnoyer).
He is survived by: his wife Shirley T. Potvin (Carreiro); his sons, Kenneth Potvin (Sheila) and David Potvin (Susan); and his grandchildren, Derek Potvin (Jacqueline), Paul Cugini (Angie), Bethanie Amaral (Josh), Jennifer D'Amico and Nicholas Potvin (Andrea). He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
