He was predeceased by: his parents, Alexander Whritenour and Florence Derouin; and his siblings, Robert and Mary Lou. He is survived by: his wife Patricia; and his children, David (Lorraine Whritenour) of Connecticut, Denise (Steve McCooey) of Rhode Island, Alex III (Judi Whritenour) of Massachusetts, Patty Ann (Steve Glassman) of Florida, Lori Songin of Massachusetts and PJ. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Alex's memory to the American Heart Association or Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
