Theresa Grace Swegel Obituary
Theresa "Terry" G. Swegel (Louro), 84, formerly of Lee, died Monday, July 10, 2023 after a period of declining health and then contracting Covid 19. Born in Mt. Vernon, New York, the daughter of the late Joaquin and Etelvina Louro (Pragana), sister to Maria Louro and the beloved wife of the late John F. Swegel.
Theresa was raised and educated in Mt Vernon, New York, and was a graduate of Hunter College. She went on to earn a Master's degree at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She moved to Washington, D.C. where she met her future husband, John (Jack). Terry and Jack were married on New Year's Eve in 1968 and moved to NJ where they adopted four children. They moved their family to Lee, MA where they remained until 2021. Theresa was a dedicated speech pathologist and worked for the majority of career with the Pittsfield Public Schools. After retiring, she dedicated much of her time volunteering in a local school library helping to bring the joy of books and reading to hundreds of young students.
Theresa loved to use her creative mind and did so any chance she had in the form of drawing, painting, knitting, crocheting, sewing, gardening and bringing antiques and furniture back to life. In addition to her constant efforts to make the world a more beautiful place, she loved to make people laugh. Theresa continued this effort daily with the staff and residents of St. Patrick's Manor in Framingham, MA where she enjoyed her last years of life.
Theresa is survived by her sister, Maria Louro, and her children: Michael, Aimee, Paul & his wife Katie Doyle Smith, and Jessica Martin & her husband Ryan, and her grandchildren, Ryhen Martin, Ryleigh Brassard, Shane, and Trinity.
Family and friends will honor and remember Theresa's life privately.
