Anthony S. Curcuru Obituary

Anthony S. Curcuru, 90, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2024, with his family at his side, at Seasons of Danvers following an extended illness. He was born in Gloucester on November 1, 1933, to the late Philip and Grace (Parisi) Curcuru, the tenth of fifteen children. He attended St Ann School, graduating from St. Ann High School in 1951. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp, serving in the Korean Conflict, reaching the rank of Sargent before being honorably discharged.

After returning to Gloucester, he married Janice (Rose), his wife of 68 years, and together they raised four children. Taking advantage of the GI bill, he earned an Associate Degree in Engineering from Wentworth University in 1955. While working in the electronics industry, he continued his education at Northeastern University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree with Highest Honors in 1967. He spent nearly 30 years working for Teradyne in Boston, retiring in 1995.

Despite being busy with work and school, he always took time for his family. He built a skating rink in the backyard for many years, beginning in the late 1960's, where family and friends spent many hours. He enjoyed reading, gardening, woodworking, cycling, and walking. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, teaching them to ice skate and attending their games and activities.

In addition to his wife of 68 years, he is survived by his son Anthony and Jane Curcuru, and daughters Faye and Steve Cooney, Janet and Paul Fini, Gail and John Shields; 11 grandchildren, Anne (David) Gowman, John (Abby) Curcuru, Alyson (Kyle) Simmonds, Laura (Dustin) Quadros, Jillian (Ervin) Beba, Jonathan Cooney, Kate (Michael) Scott, Kevin (Michelle) Fini, Bryan (Kelley) Shields, Marc (Marielle) Shields, and Hannah Shields; and 11 great-grandchildren, including Rylee and Mayzie, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by two brothers, Gerald and Joanne Curcuru and Charles (Bobby) and Marcia Curcuru, three sisters, Grace Nicastro, Mary Fuhs, Catherine "Tina" Nickerson, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by seven brothers, Salvatore, John, Thomas, Libiro, Joseph, Phillip and Nicholas, and two sisters, Felicia Lowe and Rosalie "Lale" Backus.

The family would like to extend its thanks and appreciation to the many caregivers who supported Anthony "Tony" during his illness, including those from Aberdeen Home Care, Seasons of Danvers, Care Dimensions and the VA.

A service will be planned for the spring. Arrangements by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester.
