Brian F. Torkildsen Obituary

Brian Torkildsen, age 63, of Gloucester, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 7, 2024, while admitted to Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Brian grew up in Danvers, graduating from Danvers High School in 1979. He was the sole proprietor of House and Home Services for nearly 40 years and built a reputation of high-quality craftsmanship. His commitment to each job and his customers reflected his strong work ethic and respect for his community. Beyond his professional life, Brian embodied the spirit of service and generosity. He volunteered tirelessly and was deeply committed to supporting veterans. As the Commander of The Sons of American Legion Capt. Lester S. Wass Post 3, he increased membership in the local squadron, helped lead the kitchen team that prepares and delivers holiday meals to veterans in need, and was instrumental in establishing a monthly breakfast that fostered a sense of community and support.

Not only a pillar of the community, Brian was the heart of his family. As a father and grandpa, his love and generosity knew no bounds. He cherished his role as "Papa" more than anything in the world, spending every moment possible with his family. Every week: Wednesday night dinners, Friday sleepovers, and Saturday morning home cooked breakfasts brought his family together around him. His home fries could rival any diner in town, and he was known everywhere he went for his chocolate chip cookies- baked with love and always plenty to share.

Brian is survived by his son, Derek and his wife Arielle; daughter, Ashley; grandchildren, Ivy and Hunter; and nine siblings. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Mary-Ellen Torkildsen.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Brian's memory to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, dana-farber.org; or to The Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 003, PO Box 122, Gloucester, MA 01931.
