Daniel L. Phinney Obituary

Daniel L. Phinney, 62, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, following a brief illness. Danny was born in Gloucester, son of the late Walter W. and Therese "Tess" (Powers) Phinney. He was raised in Gloucester and attended Gloucester Public Schools.

He adored his family and close friends and the fun he had with them golfing, lobstering, striper fishing, playing cribbage, watching and attending Patriots games. Danny relished the events on the boulevard that occurred on his birthday on July 3rd. Everyone who knew him knew it was a celebration fit for him. Dan was always diligent in his occupation. He enjoyed his coworkers and made many good friends along the way. Early on working as a swordfish fisherman, then following his brother in joining the laborer's union in Boston, later transferring and retiring as a bricklayer proud to be a member of BAC Local 3.

He is survived by his wife Mary (Lowe) Phinney of 33 years, two sons Joel and Sean, his five brothers Bill Phinney and his wife Andrea, Tom and his wife Wendy, John-Stephen and his wife Jackie, Jamie and his wife Joyce, Scott, his sister Maribeth and her husband Bruce DelTorchio, sister in law Deborah Phinney, three brother in laws Dana Lowe and his wife Karen, Greg companion to Susan, Chris and his wife Lisa and sister in law Erin Lowe as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Danny also shared a special bond with Matthew and Marcus Martin. He is predeceased by his parents Tess and Walter, a brother David Phinney and a brother-in-law John Lowe.

Honoring his wishes, services will be held privately with his family. Arrangements by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester.
