Doris A. McCarthy Obituary

She was born in Worcester, MA, the daughter of Timothy and Anne (Clifford) Kelleher. She is pre-deceased by her husband Jeremiah and sister, Sr. Margaret Kelleher, SND.

Doris graduated from Ascension High with four years of straight A's and was a champion member of the debate team.

After high school, she graduated from the Katherine Foley Ward Business School and then worked as an Office Manager first at Boepples Butchery and then at Richard Healy Dept. Store until she met the love of her life, Jeremiah McCarthy.

She is survived by her six children, Timothy and his wife Nancy of Warwick, RI, Francis and his wife Donna of South Boston, John and his wife Patti of Gloucester, Mary Aloisio and her husband Jim of Gloucester, her son Paul of Gloucester, and her daughter Ann Daigneau and her husband Pete of Amherst, NH, her 10 grandchildren Brigid, Brendan, Colleen, Jeremiah, Meghan, Dan, Brianna, Stephen, Madeleine, and Jill and her 9 great-grandchildren.

Her life epitomized the "I am third" philosophy with her Faith and Family being her primary focus.

She was a daily communicant at both St. Peter's and then Our Lady of Good Voyage into her early 90s. At St. Peter's, she was the Past Prefect of the Ladies Sodality and also served as a Sacristan, Eucharistic Minister, Lector and CCD instructor. She continued to observe her faith through Catholic TV until the end.

She and her husband ran Jerry's Variety for many years. She worked as a waitress at Bob's Clam Shack and the Tavern restaurants and worked at Seacoast as a receptionist until she finally retired at age 75.

She enjoyed family travels to Florida, Italy and Ireland where she was able to connect with her cousins. Most of all she loved being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was proud to be able to host Sunday breakfast in her own home for her family up until her passing. She will be sorely missed by all.

Visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Thursday, December 14, 2023, from 4-7p.m. Doris's Funeral Mass will be held in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect Street, on Friday, at 10a.m. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
