Frederick C. Reynolds Jr. of Gloucester, MA, was truly one of a kind—a man known for his quick wit, charm, and a larger-than-life personality. Surrounded by the love of his family, he said his final goodbye on August 7, 2026, just shy of his 80th birthday, and was peacefully reunited with his beloved wife, Barbara J. Reynolds.
Fred's story began in Newport, RI, where he grew up enjoying the simple joys of coastal life. After high school, he proudly joined the United States Army, serving as a Specialist with the 1st Air Cav Division. He was deployed to Camp Radcliff in An Khe, Vietnam, where he completed a year-long tour of duty. His military service remained a defining chapter of his life—one he carried with pride and reflection always.
After returning home, Fred worked on Newport Bridges, where he met the love of his life, Barbara. She eventually led him north to Gloucester, MA, where he worked at Americold and later at Seabreeze Liquors. There are far too many "Fred stories" from his years at Seabreeze to ever tell them all—and anyone who knew him likely has one of their own.
When Barbara was diagnosed with ALS, Fred, alongside his daughter Tanya, devoted himself fully to her care. He never left her side. In those years, he came to understand the true meaning of "till death do us part," and the depth of love and devotion it represents. He was there for every need, every challenge, and every moment, caring for the love of his life with unwavering dedication.
During Barbara's final days, she finally gave in and allowed Fred to buy his dream boat, YOLO. We are fairly certain, however, that Barbara may have had the last laugh from above—because Fred never quite managed to catch a keeper. He did, however, catch something just as meaningful: countless friendships and memories made while docked at Cape Ann Marina.
Fred loved life and lived it fully. He formed lasting friendships and cherished his time at Cape Ann Marina, where he was always ready with a story, a joke, or a warm conversation.
Above all, Fred's greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren. He adored them and treasured every moment spent together. He loved taking them out to dinner at what became his "second home"-Charlie's, Saltwater Grille, George's, Seaport Grille, and the old Cupboard—creating memories they will carry with them forever.
To describe Fred as "one of a kind" is an understatement. He had a way of making a lasting first impression and an even greater way of making sure you never forgot him. He always took the time to say hello, check in, and chat—and somehow managed to leave you laughing with one of his many one-liners. Fred had a gift for making people feel welcome, valued, and glad they crossed his path.
He is survived by his daughter, Tanya J. Frost, and her husband, Jeremy; his beloved grandchildren, Kyle Frost and his wife Ciara, Connor Frost, and Taylor Frost; his sister, Pamela Marshall and her husband Eddie of Middleton, RI; his granddog Aldo; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Fred was predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara J. Reynolds; his mother, Allene Silvia Reynolds; and his siblings, Gloria J. Mitchell, Alfred Reynolds, Edward Reynolds, Kenneth Reynolds, and Donald Reynolds.
Fred lived a life filled with love, laughter, devotion, friendship, and unforgettable stories. He was a devoted husband, an incredible father, a cherished grandfather, and a loyal friend to many. His absence will leave an enormous void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, but his humor, his stories, and the memories he created will live on forever.
Simply put, Fred was one of the best—and there will never be another quite like him.
Visiting hours will be held at the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. His. Graveside services will be held at Calvary Cemetery, 165 Eastern Avenue, Gloucester on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
