George O. Korpi Obituary
George O. Korpi Jr., 61, of Gloucester, passed away unexpectedly at home Wednesday, April 24, 2019. He was married to Mary A. Capobianco-Korpi. Born and raised in Gloucester, he was the son of the late George O. Korpi Sr. and Barbara (Hopkins) Korpi. And the brother of the late, Deborah M. Korpi. George Jr. attended Gloucester HS and he lived and worked in Salem, Worcester and Gloucester at various times in his life.
George worked years as a chef at John Hancock, Boston, and 16 years between executive chef/line /fry/cook at Mad Fish Grille. Also, as cook for the Rudder and Studio similarly in Rocky Neck. And a cook at the Black Cow, Hamilton and the Crab Shack in Salem. George was known for "always landing on his feet", always working-strong work ethic.
Additionally, George was not only an excellent cook, he was a "jack of all trades"; "a MacGyver" as he always said. He could fix and build almost anything. And George was always willing to help family, neighbors, co-workers, or strangers, anyone who needed assistance. George enjoyed boating, walking trails and most importantly, spending time with his two dogs; River and Lola.
River was his special girl who he spoiled. George enjoyed the beach and anytime outside gardening or walking the dogs. Survived by wife Mary Capobianco-Korpi, and sister, Donna Korpi and George's 3 adult children, 3 grandchildren, and a niece and nephew. He was also survived by many Korpi and Hopkins relatives in Gloucester and Rockport.
