Grazia Taormina Obituary

Grazia, "Grace" Taormina, 88, of Gloucester, beloved wife of Domenico Taormina, passed away on Friday morning, December 10, 2021, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, after a brief illness. Grace was born on April 29, 1933 in Terrasini, Sicily, Italy and was the daughter of the late Antonio and Rosa (Moceri) DiMercurio.

She belonged to Madonna Del Rosario Society; Mother of Grace Club, The St. Ann's Holy Family Parish Women's Guild, and enjoyed the knitting club with her special friends for many years. She was an avid Rosary prayer and attended them all: St. Anthony's, St. Joseph's, St Peter's, and the Madonna delle Grazie. Grace was full of life, laughter, smiles, hugs and big pinches on the cheeks for everyone. All that knew her loved her. She always left you with a smile and a red face (she would grab a handful of your face to give you a kiss). As well as her love for all, she was talented in many things, knitting and crocheting beautiful afghans and sweaters and accessories for her grandchildren and friends. She was a seamstress, making clothes and costumes for her family. She enjoyed times with her brothers, her special sisters-in-law and with her dear friends throughout the years. Her Christmas Eve holidays at her home were always her favorite filled with family, friends and special holiday Sicilian delicacies topped with sleepovers with family. Also, an old-school Sicilian cook, she carried on lots of her recipes for anyone that asked. Most of all she loved her almost 70 years with her loving, devoted and best friend, husband Domenico who will miss her dearly. She enjoyed walks on Stacey boulevard with her husband, spending time with her children and grandchildren and traveling with friends and family.

She worked for many years as a leather stitcher at Strong Leather where she was loved by all. She also worked at Gorton's of Gloucester for a few years before she retired.

She is survived by her beloved and dear children, Mercurio (Mike) Taormina, husband of Lucia (Brancaleone); Antonio Taormina, husband of the late Josephine (Costanzo), Peter Taormina, Finella Taormina Williams, wife of Chris Williams. Grandchildren Dominic Michael Taormina, husband of Rosa (DiVirgilio) of Beverly; Grace (Taormina) White, wife of Keith White of Gloucester; Dominic Anthony Taormina, husband of Emily (Stone) Taormina of Andover; Grace Ann (Taormina) Latraverse, wife of Leo of Gloucester; Salvatore Taormina of Gloucester and Jackson and Thomas Williams of Essex. Great grandchildren, Michael White; Valentina and Alessia Taormina; Leila, Marina and Leo Latraverse.
She is also survived by her brother-in-law Onofrio Maggiore husband to Angie (Tocco) Maggiore of Gloucester and sister-in-laws Giuseppina (Ventimiglia) Taormina of California, and Maria DiMercurio, wife of the late Salvatore DiMercurio of Italy. She also leaves behind several very dear and loved nieces and nephews as well as cousins in Gloucester, Italy, California and Michigan.

She was predeceased by her and her five brothers and their wives: Francesco, husband of Grazia; Girolamo, husband of Nina; Salvatore, husband of Francesca; Vincenzo, husband of Luana; Giuseppe, husband of Angelina. She was also predeceased by her in-laws: Pietro Taormina husband of Giuseppina; Rosa (Taormina) Lograsso wife of Vito Lograsso; Grace (Taormina) Novello, wife of Tony Novello; Eleanora (Taormina) wife of Michael D'Angelo; Giovanna (Taormina) late wife of Onofrio Maggiore; Francesco Taormina late husband of Giuseppina Taormina.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, TODAY, December 13, 2021 from 12-2 p.m. in St. Ann's Church, 60 Prospect St. Gloucester. Family and friends are cordially invited. Her funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. followed by her burial in Calvary Cemetery in Gloucester. Due to COVID protocol, facial coverings are now mandated by the Catholic Church and will need to be worn.
