Hazel I. Ellis Obituary

Hazel I. (Swinson) Ellis, 85, of Gloucester, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at her home. She was the wife of the late Arnold W. "Arnie" Ellis. Born in Gloucester, she was the daughter of the late Olaf and Mary (Oliver) Swinson and was a graduate of Gloucester High School Class of 1956.

Hazel worked for many years in the seafood industry working at Mass Coastal and retiring from Gorton's of Gloucester. She had many life-long friends that she enjoyed meeting for lunch every month, and meeting friends every Tuesday morning on the Boulevard. She also enjoyed playing bingo at the Senior Center in Gloucester.

She loved life, loved to laugh, found joy and happiness in everything, and truly inspired all around her to be positive, optimistic, and grateful for the many blessings in life. We will miss her sense of humor each and every day.

Her faith and love for the church was something held very dear to her, and she carried this devotion throughout her life and was very involved in the Bible Study Group.

Hazel is survived by her son, Arnold "Arnie" Ellis, III and wife Karen; grandchildren, Hilary Rhault and husband Jeremy, Hannah Ellis and boyfriend Matt LaFleur, Kellen O'Brine and wife, Cienna, and Jared O'Brine; greatgrandchildren, Ava, Everett and Nolan Rhault; goddaughter, Rhonda Tucker and husband Rusty; and lifelong best friend, Judy Rocha, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, John "Boy" Swinson, and sister Doris Pimentel.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect Street, Gloucester on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be held privately.
