James F. Dort Sr. Obituary
James, husband of Jacqueline A. (Scola), died peacefully at home. He was born in Gloucester, April 26, 1936, son of May (Emero) and Charles Dort.
Jim attended local schools and graduated from GHS class of 1955. After school, he joined the Navy. Following his time in the Navy, he married Jackie and they raised their family together.
Jim liked to go camping in the summer with his family and neighbors. He worked for Gorton's for 34 years, after retiring he enjoyed traveling to Canada's Maritime Provinces, Virginia, Branson, and cruising to Bermuda.
Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, and their children, Mary Amero, James Jr. (Jaime), Daniel (Jennifer) and grandchildren Thomas and Ajay Dort. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his sister Kathleen; his in-laws Sebastian and Margaret Scola; his sister-in-law Joanne Scola; brother-in-law Paul Scola; and son-in-law Philip Amero Jr. Visiting hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7 at Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, MA 01930.
A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8 at Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect Street, Gloucester, MA 01930. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend.
