James J. Interrante Obituary
James "Jimmy" John Interrante, 92, of Gloucester, husband of the late Mary Rose (Favazza) Interrante, passed away, peacefully, on Sunday morning August 6, 2023, at home with family.
Jimmy was born in the "North End" of Boston on March 16, 1931, son of the late Gaspar and Rose Interrante. He was the salt of the earth; he worked as a commercial fisherman beginning when he was a teenager until he retired in his 60s. He was proud of his military service; he was a U.S. Army Sergeant during the Korean War. Jimmy served as a cook in both the military and as a commercial fisherman. But most of all he was a proud husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Jimmy married the love of his life Mary in 1952 and together they instilled the importance of family and traditions. He loved his family dearly.
He was a member of the Gloucester Elks Lodge, where he loved his years playing cards with friends, the St. Peter's Club, and the Gloucester American Legion.
He is survived by his children, Rosemarie Markuson and husband Mark of Gloucester, Buddy Interrante and wife Carmen of Methuen, Jim Interrante Jr. of South Boston, Annette Murray, and husband Dean of Gloucester; grandchildren, Benjamin Markuson, James Interrante and wife Kayla, Vanessa Christie and husband Adam, Devon Murray, and Karissa Murray; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Sloane Interrante and Abigail and Andrew Christie; his brothers, Samuel Interrante and wife Joanne, Gaspar Interrante; sisters in-law, Lillian McTigue and Jean Favazza; many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong close friends.
In addition to his wife Mary, he was predeceased by his son, Benjamin Interrante; his brothers, Charlie Interrante and wife Phyllis, John Interrante and wife Betty, Joe Interrante and Anthony Interrante; his sister, Catherine Curcuru and husband Philip, Jennie Interrante; his sister in-law, Sarah Interrante; brothers- in-law, Sammy Favazza, Ben "Junior" Favazza; father and mother-in-law, Capt. Ben, and Nettie Favazza.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Ann's Church, Holy Family Parish on Saturday, August 12, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
A visitation will be held prior to the Mass in St. Ann's Church from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
