John J. Giglio Obituary

John J. Giglio, 89, of Gloucester, husband of Irma F. (MacDougall) Giglio, passed away in his home on Monday morning, April 18, 2022, with his loving family at his side.

John was born in Everett, MA on June 4, 1932, and was the son of the late Joseph P. and Josephine Giglio.

He was a graduate of Malden High School with the Class of 1950. Immediately following graduation John enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. The Korean War had just broken out and he proudly served his country aboard the Evergreen Coast Guard Cutter in the North Atlantic and The Gurnet Coast Guard station in Duxbury, MA.

First and foremost, John enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a doting and devoted father, grand-father, and great-grandfather. Always checking in, making sure everyone was doing OK and getting updates on their lives. He was a classic car enthusiast. Enjoyed working around the house and yard, always keeping busy with household projects, and running errands for everyone! If anyone needed anything, at any time – you'd call John!

John is survived by his wife, Irma, whom he was married to for 66 years, his brother James (Jim) Giglio of Malden, and John & Irma's six children, John J. Giglio, Jr and his long-time companion Cecelia Akuffo, Steven Giglio and his wife Brenda, Debra Barnes and her husband Scott, Susan Giglio, Jo-Ann Thibault and her husband Michael and Sandra Giglio and her fiancé David Favazza; grandchildren, Bob Klyce, Dylan Young, Wyatt Young, Hannah Barnes, Lauren Barnes, Jeff Northcott, Steven Northcott, Heather Sears; great-grandchildren, Ella & Ethan Northcott, Maddie and Xander Sears and Everleigh Young and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother's Rosario Roberto Giglio and William L. Giglio.

Visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St. Gloucester on Friday, April 22, 2022, from 8-9:30 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited. Following visiting hours, his memorial mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect St., Gloucester at 10 a.m. Facial coverings are required in church. Burial will be in Beechbrook Cemetery, 401 Essex Avenue, West Gloucester, after the mass.
