Joseph Ciolino Obituary

Joseph Ciolino, 90, of Gloucester, MA, husband of the late Grace Marie (Bartolotta) Ciolino died peacefully on Friday, January 28, 2022. He was a United States Army Veteran stationed at Ft. Dix. He was born in Terrasini, Sicily, on February 28, 1931, son of the late Domenic and Catherine (Moceri) Ciolino of Terrasini, Sicily. Joseph and his family moved to Gloucester, MA in 1948. After serving his country, Joseph returned to his passion as a commercial fisherman in Gloucester.

He was Captain of the John F. Kennedy and the Sandra Jane, both eastern-rig fishing trawlers. A jokester at heart, Joseph would always make time for a little mischief, both with his crews, and especially with his family. Joseph always welcomed friends and family alike during special occasions. Joseph retired in 1986 and cherished time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Joe was an avid gardener who grew all sorts of fruits, vegetables, and flowers. One of things he looked forward to each year was listening to the Sanremo music festival. Joe would also enjoy a game of hearts with his friends at the St. Peter's club. He was also an enthusiastic sports fan. He loved all the local sports teams and still kept track of soccer back in Italy.

Joseph is survived by his three sons, Dominic J. Ciolino of Gloucester, Thomas V. Ciolino and his wife, Neeti of Ashland, Joseph M. Ciolino of Marlborough; his daughter, Catherine M. Lessard and her husband, Paul of Medford; six grandchildren, Sonali Ciolino, Joseph, Nico and Anna Grace Ciolino, Paul and Katerina Lessard; his brothers, Salvatore Ciolino, and his late wife, Catherine, Anthony Ciolino and his wife Josephine; his sister, Mary Brancaleone and her husband Gaetano; many nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Ann's Church, Holy Family Parish on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. A visitation will be held prior to the Mass in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester on Saturday from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. All attendees are required to wear face coverings during both visiting hours and at Mass.

The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester, MA.
