Leonardo S. Ferrara Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Leonardo Salvatore Ferrara, 30, who passed away peacefully at Lahey Burlington Hospital on April 30, 2025, with his loving family by his side. His untimely passing followed a courageous, hard-fought battle, showcasing his warrior strength and courageous heart.

Born in Gloucester, Leo was the son of Frances (Francie) Martin and Ambrose Ferrara and his wife, Rosemary Ferrara. Growing up, he made fond memories with his siblings whom he loved immensely- Joey, Robert, Dominque, Zina, and Laiza. He attended Gloucester Public Schools and later went on to earn his GED. After, Leo then worked at Maria's Pizza, Myopia Hunt Club, Giacalone Construction and Gorton's.

In his free time, Leo had many hobbies and interests. Among them included his passion for culinary arts, which he shared with friends and family alike. He cherished the time he spent cooking with his mother, whether it was for holidays or just Sunday dinner. They also enjoyed UFC fights and horror movies together several times a week. He also enjoyed podcasts, standup comedy, walks through Ravenswood Park, and long car rides with his friends. Leo also treasured his travels with his father, moments that became cherished memories filled with laughter and love.

Among those who held a special place in Leo's heart was his nephew Vinny (who looks just like him), and niece Bri'Elle, who adored their uncle and looked up to him with admiration and affection.

Leo was known for his vibrant spirit, warm personality, and deep love for his family and friends. He couldn't have loved his brothers, Joey and Robert, or sisters, Dominque, Zina, and Laiza, any more than he did. He also enjoyed holidays at his Nana Favaloro's and Sunday dinners playing cards with the whole family. Leo was very close to his childhood friends, especially Daniel Muise, Timothy Cloutman and Ryan Jones.

He had a remarkable talent for bringing people together. Leo's kind heart, humor, and generous soul touched the lives of all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and light. He will be sadly missed, especially by his family.

Leo is survived by his brothers, Joey and Robert; sisters, Dominique, Zina, and Laiza; nephew, Vinny; niece, Bri'Elle Bachmann; grandmother, Frances (Cheena) Favaloro; his biggest cheerleader, nonna Vincenza Ferrara and late nonno Leonardo Ferrara; stepmother, Rosemary Ferrara; aunts, Enza DiMercurio and Jackie (Sal) Zappa; uncles, Anthony (Sue) Favaloro, Salvatore "Sam" (Cheryl), Domenic "Donnie" (Julie), Leo (Teresa) Ferrara, and Vito (Diana) Ferrara; cousins, Sal DiMercurio, Leo DiMercurio, Frank DiMercurio, Claudia D'Amico, Fil Zappa, Lenny Zappa, Zack Zappa, Sonya Brooks, Kayla Ferrara, Sophia Ferrara and Enza Ferrara; cousins, Tyson, Tony, Sam, Tyler, and Dylan Favaloro, as well as Amanda Nickerson; and countless cousins, relatives, friends, and colleagues who were all special in Leo's life. The family also wishes to thank all those who spent time with Leo in his final weeks at the hospital as well.

He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Salvatore "Sammy Red" Favaloro and Leonardo Ferrara; aunt; Joanne (Favaloro) Dagle; and uncle, Frank DiMercurio.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect Street, Gloucester. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
