Lynn M. Begg Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of Lynn Marie (Massicotte) Begg on Monday, February 2, 2026, at the age of 53. Lynn was surrounded by family in her final moments, and she will be forever and deeply missed by all who loved her. Lynn was a loving mother, sister, friend, and life partner. Lynn was a warrior, battling kidney disease since the age of five, and yet living a vibrant, full life, filled with love and laughter. All who knew Lynn would remember her for her joy, her profound love for her family and friends, her wicked sense of humor, her incredible style, her strength, her light, her laughter, and her ability to see beauty in everyone.

Lynn was born November 15, 1972, daughter to the late Dr. Emile Massicotte and the late Mary Ellen (Burke) Massicotte, and was raised in Simsbury, CT, as one of eight children. Lynn had three older siblings (Michael, Michelle, Lori), three younger siblings (Todd, Joyce, Paul), and one baby brother, Richard, who predeceased Lynn in 1970. Growing up in a large family as the middle child honed Lynn's skills as a savvy but tough negotiator, and excellent athlete. As a child, Lynn did dance and gymnastics, played soccer, basketball, and tennis, ice-skated, and skied (both cross country and alpine), with her parents and siblings.

There were many Friday nights when the whole family would lace up their ice skates and skate at Simsbury Farms, or during snow days at St. Mary's School, shovel snow off Arnold's Pond and play a make-shift game of broom hockey. In high school at Northwest Catholic, Lynn was a varsity three sport athlete, in soccer, basketball, and tennis, and an avid alpine skier. Lynn attended the University of New Hampshire (UNH), graduating with a communications major in 1996. In Lynn's first year of UNH, Lynn would receive the first of three kidney transplants in her life, with her sister, Lori, being the best match and first donor.

After graduating from UNH in 1996, Lynn worked as a nanny for a wonderful family in Cambridge, MA and then went into interior design working for the William Hodgins Design Group in Boston. Lynn married Chris Begg in 1998, and they moved to Ipswich, MA. On June 15, 2000, Caroline Grace Begg was born, and it was love at first sight for Lynn. Lynn adored her daughter, Caroline, and as a mother, Lynn was, without question, incredible. She was dedicated, fun, tough when necessary, and completely enraptured by her beautiful daughter and her role as a mom.

Soon after Caroline's birth, it became apparent another kidney was needed, and Lynn received her second transplant on September 11, 2001, with her brother, Michael, as the kidney donor. Lynn thrived with Michael's kidney, deemed (accurately) by Mike as "the performer" and Lynn immersed herself in Caroline's academics at Brookwood School and activities on the North Shore. As members of Eastern Point Yacht Club (EPYC), Lynn would support Caroline as Caroline trained to become an accomplished sailor at EPYC, and later a sailing instructor.

Lynn was very involved in the community of EPYC and the North Shore. During the winter months, skiing in New Hampshire and staying at the "Dome" (i.e. the geodesic dome built in the design style championed by Buckminster Fuller that Lynn and Chris owned as their ski house) was the norm, and many extended family members and friends accompanied them to the Dome on the weekends. Lynn continued to be a steady mentor and amazing mom to Caroline, and Caroline graduated from Brookwood, followed by Pingree School, and then Villanova University.

Lynn and Chris eventually divorced but remained dedicated, hands-on parents to Caroline, and individually involved members of the community. Lynn's role as caregiver and nurturer extended widely beyond her immediate family, as she was a beloved aunt to her many nieces and nephews, as well as her friends' kids. Lynn was very close with all her siblings, as well as her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and her huge network of friends from UNH, the North Shore, the South Shore, and EPYC. Lynn channeled her athletic abilities later in life to yoga, mastering complex yoga poses, and working for Lululemon.

Lynn has always been so strong, but as the years continued, it became clear that a third kidney was needed, and in this round, both Michelle (sister) and Peg (sister-in-law) were the leading contenders (but not complete matches) and ready to clear their calendars and give Lynn a kidney. Then the call came in from the transplant team that an "anonymous perfect match donor" had been tested and wanted to move forward with the transplant. This is how Brian Rossano, Lynn's amazing life partner, came into our lives.

Lynn and Brian were friends from EPYC and Brian just decided to get tested because he wanted Lynn to live her best life. This selfless act from Brian was the foundation of what would become the most beautiful love story we all have ever seen. Brian and Lynn were true partners and "a perfect match" in every sense as they were both so smart, funny, kind, fun, creative, and unconditionally giving to each other and everyone they knew. Brian and Lynn loved to go out on their boat in Gloucester and have friends and family over to their harborview deck to watch the sunset, with great music playing and beverages in hand.

Lynn used their house in Gloucester as her canvas, creating gorgeous interiors with her impeccable design sense and keen understanding of how to make a house a home. Lynn and Brian loved to travel together, with frequent trips to Miami and then internationally with Caroline to Portugal, and their close circle of Gloucester friends to Italy. Brian was Lynn's partner in life, but he also became her champion and advocate, particularly as things became harder with her kidney. Lynn was a warrior and Brian was by her side in every battle.

The magic of Lynn was her strength and unwavering love for her family and her very wide circle of friends. Lynn battled a very serious disease for almost fifty years of her life, but to know Lynn, is to not dwell on the sad and difficult parts however omnipresent they were, but to embrace life, to laugh, to love, and to let everyone know how special they are. This is Lynn, and we will forever miss her. Lynn was predeceased by her father, Dr. Emile Massicotte, her mother, Mary Ellen (Burke) Massicotte, and her brother, Richard, and is survived by her daughter, Caroline, her life partner, Brian Rossano, her siblings: Michael Massicotte and wife, Peggy, of Exeter, NH, Michelle Gallagher and husband, Tim, of Swampscott, MA, Lori Bryan and husband, Scott, of Hampton, NH, Todd Massicotte and wife, Lisa, of Exeter, NH, Joy Massicotte of Exeter, NH, and Paul Massicotte and wife, Kate, of Andover, MA.

Lynn is also survived by her fourteen beloved nieces and nephews: Ben, Cameron, Emma, Andrew, Julia, Nora, Johann, Tommy, Grace, Michael, Emile, Georgia, Emilia, and Noah. Her Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, February 13, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect Street, Gloucester, Massachusetts. Burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in the name of Lynn Begg to the National Kidney Foundation.
