Marcia Aptt Obituary
Marcia Aptt passed on as she lived, full of energy and life, her spirit living in the hearts of others who loved her. She kept a smile on her face that shined through, even on her last days, as she lost her battle with ovarian cancer on Saturday, August 27th at home with her loving family by her side.
Marcia was born on February 4, 1939, in Gloucester to Donald G. Harvey and Edna (Allen) Harvey. In 1960, she married Harry W. Aptt, Jr., sharing 62 years of marriage. Marcia was a lifelong Riverdale resident, always enjoying the Mill and Annisquam Rivers, fishing and clamming, and boat rides out in Ipswich Bay and Gloucester Harbor.
Marcia was a member of the Gloucester High School class of 1956, followed by being employed as a medical administrative manager in the offices of Drs. John Gale, Lawrence Ross, and Hammer Lacey. After the formation of Cape Ann Pediatricians, working at that time with Drs. Jeffrey Stockman, Thomas Carbone, Anita Fackler, and Brian Orr, Marcia retired in 2001. Over her lengthy career, she had contact with three generations of parents and children working for a total of 47 years in healthcare in the Gloucester community.
Leisure time found her enjoying skiing, traveling, golfing, and boating with family and friends. She was a cat lover, lover of nature and enjoyed the birds coming to the many feeders in the backyard. Her flower gardens were beautiful and enjoyed by all who visited. Marcia's greatest joy was spending time with her family, and opening her home to gatherings, both large and small. Throughout the years, friendships continued with childhood friends, as well as many friends made at the Rockport Golf Club. She was active in her sons' lives and always made time to enjoy her grandchildren's activities. Marcia was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and in later life enjoyed working as a volunteer with Senior Care.
Marcia assumed her roles in life with determination, always feeling the importance of family. Her family will grieve her passing but give thanks for the gift she was in their lives, and the kindness she shared to everyone. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, a hard worker, and a loyal friend to many. She will not be forgotten.
