Marcia L. Mullen Obituary
Marcia Lee (Morrissey) Mullen, 75 of Gloucester, MA passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. Marcia was born on January 22, 1950, to Burt and Margaret (Burton) Morrissey.
The youngest of five siblings, Marcia was the embodiment of an adventurous spirit. As a kid she reveled in exploring the woods around her Decatur Street home and was constantly nursing injured wildlife back to health. As a teen her adventures took her to the Rocky Mountains where she completed a solo survival test sponsored by Outward Bound.
After graduating from Gloucester High in 1968, she pursued several careers including postal worker, hair stylist, and nanny, but no job was more important to her than her job as mother to her four children. Family was the center of Marcia's world. Later in life, her nurturing role evolved into what she thought was the greatest yet, as grandmother to her ten grandchildren and grandpup, Floyd. "Nana" as she was lovingly referred to was always up for babysitting, a fishing trip, butterfly hunt or sea glass exploration with the "grands" as she called them. On most occasions Marcia could be found at their sporting events, concerts and ceremonies.
When she wasn't spending time with her family, Marcia found enjoyment in gardening, traveling; most recently to Ireland, visiting the public library, strolling the boulevard to delight in the seasons' blooms, and of course keeping a watchful eye on the bald eagle that had taken up residency close to her neighborhood.
She was undoubtedly a people person and brought laughter and energy to every social gathering she was part of. She possessed a keen sense of humor and infectious laugh. She had an uncanny ability to strike up a conversation with any stranger, and no dog walker could escape her. Being introduced to every four-legged furry creature gave her immense joy.
Marcia's smile and enthusiasm were contagious and will be sorely missed.
Marcia was predeceased by her parents, her beloved son, Tommy; brothers Robert D Morrissey and Clayton C, and sister-in-law Ruth Morrissey, along with her cherished niece, Allison Witham.
Marcia is survived by her three daughters, Brenda Roller of Gloucester, Brandi and Matt Gardner of Rockport, and Gwendolyn and Dave Share of Gloucester. Grandchildren: Matthew, Hadden and Miranda Roller; Addie, Charlotte, Cash, Waylen and Hank Gardner; and Layton and Willow Share; sisters Mary (Roger) LeBarron and Penney (Lee) Huggins; by her sister-in-law Sylvia Morrissey; and numerous nieces and nephews; cousins as well as many friends.
There will be a Graveside Service on Thursday, June 19, at 11a.m. at Beechbrook Cemetery, 401 Essex Ave., Gloucester. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Cape Ann Animal Shelter in Marcia's name.
