Maria Alice Pata Obituary
Maria Alice Pata, 85, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully Friday, August 25, 2023, surrounded by her loving family at the home of her son Jack. She was the beloved wife of Antonio D.F. Pata for 55 years, who passed away on June 4, 2013.
Born in Gafanha de Aquém, ílhavo, Portugal, on September 10, 1937, she was the daughter of the late José Duarte de Oliveira and Palmira da Cruz Martins. She lived in Portugal for many years before immigrating to the United States and settling in Gloucester in October 1965.
Alice was a dedicated homemaker, who also cared for her grandchildren. She was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and those less fortunate, constantly placing everyone ahead of herself. A very talented and gifted seamstress who had hands of gold. She also created countless family crochet heirlooms. Alice took pride in her flower and vegetable gardens, here and in Portugal. She also loved to vacation back to her homeland, sharing her home there with her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Connie and her husband Matteo Favazza of Italy; three sons, Tony J. Pata and his wife Trisha; Jack Pata and his wife Linda; and Zé "Joe" Pata and his wife Christina, all of Gloucester; eight grandchildren Cristina and Veronica, of Italy; Victoria, Julianna, Sophia, Luke, Talia, and Ava of Gloucester; great-grandchildren Alice, Isabel, Amelia, of Italy; Jordan and Mia of Gloucester; a sister, Noemia Ribau and her husband José, brother-in-law Manuel Ventura all of Portugal; sister-in-law Randi Pata, godchild John Pata Jr. of Gloucester and many more family members.
In addition to her loving husband, she was predeceased by her sister Rosa Ventura and brother-in-law John Pata.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, August 30, from 4-7p.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St, Gloucester. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 31, in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect St., Gloucester, at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery.
