Marilyn J. McPherson Obituary

Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Marilyn J. (Duchane) McPherson, passed away at home on Monday, August 24th, surrounded by her family. She was just five days shy of her 95th birthday. Born to Evelyn (Borge) & Arthur E. Duchane, Marilyn was a lifelong resident of Lanesville and graduated from Gloucester High School in 1949. After high school, Marilyn worked briefly at the Gloucester Safe Deposit and Trust Company before marrying the love of her life, Roger D. McPherson, in 1955. Marilyn and Roger moved briefly to Groton, Connecticut where Roger finished out his service in the U.S. Coast Guard. Upon completion of his service, they returned to Gloucester and soon settled into their home in Lanesville where they raised their family. Marilyn was active in the Sacred Heart Church Women's Guild and was a dedicated homemaker who greatly enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, caring for her children and, later, her grandchildren. She could often be found walking around Lanesville pushing a stroller or holding hands with Roger, with whom she shared over 70 years of marriage.

In addition to her husband, Marilyn is survived by her children, Melissa Hillier of Gloucester and Kevin McPherson of Virginia Beach, VA, her grandchildren, Dylan McPherson of Virginia Beach, VA, Alyson (McPherson) Piano and her husband, Mark, of Prince George's County, MD, Doug Denzine of Virginia Beach, VA, Shiela Hutsenpiller of Mount Dora, FL, Erica Hillier and her husband, Matthew Rivers, of Rockport and Noah Hillier and his fiancé, Stephanie Samarjian, of Gloucester as well as nieces, nephews and two great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester.
