Mary P. Amero Obituary
Mary P. (Rossi) Amero, 93, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 3, 2022 at Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Gloucester. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald A. Amero Sr. for more than 60 years. Born in East Orange, New Jersey, Mary was the daughter of the late Margaret (Burnham) Rossi and Enrico (Henry) Rossi. Mary moved from New Jersey when she was an infant, and lived her entire life in Gloucester.
Although retired for many years, Mary had previously worked at Seafood Kitchens in Gloucester. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and loved spending time with her family, especially on holidays. Easter was an especially favorite time, hosting a family breakfast and Easter egg hunt for her children and grandchildren each year. Mary enjoyed travelling to North Conway, NH with her husband, and made it a regular summer vacation spot even after her children were grown. During one of their trips there, Mary and Don met Jeff and Sue Adams and their son Kyle from New York and they became dear friends. They would continue to meet in North Conway the same week every summer, and kept in touch when they could no longer travel. Mary and Don also enjoyed many friendships from their time socializing at the VFW and family events at Aunt Rosie's. They had many good times with Marcia and Joe Frontiero. In her later years, Mary was an avid reader and loved her daily rides around the backshore and ice cream at the Cupboard.
Mary is survived by two sons, John Amero and his wife Paula of Tampa, Florida, Donald Amero Jr. and his wife Diane of Gloucester, one daughter, Sally Skrobacz of St. Pete, Florida, a brother, Henry Rossi of Rockport, a sister-in-law, Betty Sampson of Gloucester, several grandchildren, Michael Amero of Gloucester, Reino Johnson, John Amero Jr. and Kiel Skrobacz, all of Florida, and Kerry Lewis and her husband Eric of Gloucester, Toni Dunaway and Jenna Beronda of Florida, several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was pre-deceased by in-laws Bernice White and her husband Douglas, Sally Doucette and her husband Walden, Edward Sampson, Bonnie Amero, Marcia (Frontiero) Goodick and her husband Joseph Frontiero, Nancy Rossi, and a son-in-law Joe Skrobacz.
The family would like to thank the staff at Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their loving care. Services will be held privately and are being handled by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St. Gloucester.
