Muriel A. Lovasco Obituary

Muriel (Day) Lovasco, of Gloucester, beloved wife of the late Samuel Lovasco, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, at the Herrick House in Beverly, Massachusetts. She was 95 years old.

Born in Rockport on May 12, 1929, Muriel was the daughter of the late Robert A. and Susie E. (Johnson) Day. She was raised in Rockport alongside her five siblings, surrounded by a large and loving extended family.

Muriel dedicated her entire professional career to the New England Telephone Company, where she began as an operator and rose to a management position—an impressive accomplishment and a testament to her work ethic and determination.

Proud of her Finnish heritage, Muriel was a devoted member of the Rockport Vasa Order of America Spiran Lodge #98, cherishing the camaraderie of fellow members and looking forward to every gathering. She was also a faithful member of Holy Family Parish, where she found joy and strength participating in novenas with a close-knit group of women.

Family was the heart of Muriel's life. Known affectionately as "Myrtie," she never missed a family gathering and was deeply loved by all who knew her. She was happiest in the company of her loved ones—cooking, sharing her treasured recipes, or knitting gifts that have become keepsakes for many. Her warmth, generosity, and sense of adventure made her the person everyone could count on, and her absence will be felt profoundly.

Muriel is survived by her loving daughter, Suzanne Day; her cherished sister, Sanna Whitten; and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Samuel; her beloved granddaughter Alita; her siblings Dorothy (Day) Rowe and husband Donald; John Day and wife Barbara; Robert "Brud" Day and wife Barbara; and Charlie Day and wife MaryLou.

Muriel's family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the extraordinary Team at the Herrick House. Your compassionate care and unwavering support for both Muriel and Samuel over the past few years have meant more to us than words can convey. We truly appreciate each and every one of you, and we will forever be grateful for the kindness you've shown. You've made a world of difference in their lives and ours.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 9 a.m. in St. Joachim Church, 56 Broadway, Rockport. Burial to follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. In keeping with Muriel's wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Holy Family Parish of Gloucester and Rockport. Arrangements by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester.
