Onofrio Maggiore Obituary

Onofrio Maggiore, a devoted husband, father (papa), grandfather (nono), and man of deep faith, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born on March 4, 1933, in Ustica, Italy, and later built a meaningful life in the United States after immigrating in 1966. Onofrio proudly made his home on Centennial Ave, where he lived for 53 years, creating a place filled with family, tradition, and love.

He was married to Giovanna (Taormina) Maggiore for 30 years until her passing in 1995. In December 2001, he married Angela (Tocco) Maggiore, with whom he shared many happy years.

A hardworking and dedicated man, Onofrio was employed by Gorton's of Gloucester for many years until his retirement in 1995. His strong work ethic was matched by his unwavering faith. A deeply religious man, he volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Ann's Parish in Gloucester, where he faithfully served his church community.

Above all, Onofrio treasured time spent with his family. He found great joy in playing with his grandchildren, sharing meals, celebrating life's moments, and dancing—something that always brought a smile to his face and those around him. Onofrio Maggiore will be remembered for his kindness, devotion to family, strong faith, and the love he gave so freely. His legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know him.

He was a loving father to his two daughters, Frances (Maggiore) Dow, of Orange, Connecticut with her husband Paul Dow, and their children Mia and Luke; and Loredana (Maggiore) Simpson, of Danvers, Massachusetts with her husband Jeffery Simpson, and their daughter Giovanna Simpson, lovingly named in honor of her late grandmother.

Onofrio was predeceased by his four sisters, Italia, Maria, Concetta, and Lililla, who all lived in Sicily and remained close to his heart throughout his life.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester. A Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann's Church at 11 a.m. following visitation at 74 Pleasant Street, Gloucester. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
