Patricia M. Olsen Obituary
Patricia M. (Hennessy) Olsen, age 91, a life-long resident of Gloucester, MA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. She was born on December 1, 1932, and was the only child of the late Patrick and Mary (Hopkins) Hennessy. Patricia was fortunate to celebrate 48 years of marriage to her husband Carl who passed away on December 27, 2002.
Patricia graduated from Gloucester High School in 1950, where she was an active member of the girls Drill Team serving as Corporal, and later the Alumni Girls Drill Team. Patricia was proud to have marched with the Alumni Drill Team to celebrate the 375th anniversary of the founding of the city of Gloucester in 1998. Following graduation, she worked as a switchboard operator for several Gloucester businesses, beginning with New England Bell Telephone, later with Gorton-Pew Fisheries, and lastly, retiring from Varian Associates in the 1980s. Patricia enjoyed wintering in Florida and summering in Gloucester.
Shopping, dancing, golfing, gambling and sunshine were central themes throughout her life. Over the years, she enjoyed wearing the latest fashions, dancing with friends at the Senior Center, playing golf at the Rockport Golf Club, and lounging by a pool, and was forever hopeful for the big payoff in either a winning lottery scratch ticket or a casino slot machine.
Patricia is survived by her two sons; David M. and his wife Susan of Ipswich; Craig J. and his wife Pam of Tampa, FL; granddaughter, Dr. Meghan Olsen and her partner Gustav Pettersson of Somerville; and one nephew and cousin.
The family would like to thank Masconomet Healthcare Center in Topsfield and to the team from Harborside Hospice, who contributed to Patrica's health and wellbeing. We are truly thankful.
Visiting hours will be held at the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Thursday, April 25, from 4-7 p.m. Family and friends are cordially invited.
