Patricia M. Ryan Obituary

Patricia M. (Kelly) Ryan, born November 19, 1935, to Lester J. Kelly and Vieno M. (Lakso) Kelly, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026. She was born in Gloucester and lived here her whole life.

Pat graduated from Gloucester High School in 1953. She met and dated Robert Ryan. After his return from the Korean War, they fell in love and were married on October 6, 1957. They started their family in 1959.

Pat was the middle of 5 sisters, the "Kelly Girls" as they were known around town, and the strong center that always held the family together. She was the one everyone could lean on when they needed support and advice. Her house was filled with family and friends, and she loved it that way. She hosted every holiday at her home, and those occasions were filled with joy and laughter. She always found the time to catch up with her growing family and wanted to hear what was going on in their lives. She loved her family deeply and made time to call or even write a thoughtful letter or card when she was thinking of you. She never forgot a birthday.

Pat loved working with and interacting with the public, whether that was on the wharf as a girl mending fishing nets, or at LePages where she worked on one of the first IBM mainframes, as a crossing guard, The Boston Herald, Ciolino's Pharmacy, Connors Pharmacy, and Connelly's Pharmacy over the course of her career. She loved getting to know the regulars and making connections with them. Pat also deeply enjoyed volunteering for the voting polls at Ward II Veteran's Memorial School.

She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Ryan of Gloucester; her sons, Michael (wife Diane) of Gloucester, Lawrence (wife Michelle) of Scituate, Thomas (wife Shannon) of Rockport and Daniel of Gloucester; her grandchildren, Matthew Ryan (wife Ariel), Peter Ryan, John Ryan (wife Madeline), Andrew Ryan (wife Amanda), Cory Ryan (wife Sarah), Keenan Ryan, Zoe (Ryan) Hassett (husband Michael), Phoebe Ryan, Lily Ryan and Grace Ryan; her great grandchildren, Lydia, William, Eli, Harper, Ruth, Margaret, Annie, Marshall and Molly; her nieces, Cynthia Frances, Kim Young, Cynthia Donaldson, Carol Cafasso, Valerie Marino, Marie Royer and Kathleen Hopkins; and nephews, Robert Cafasso, Andrew Muniz and Michael Muniz.

She is predeceased by her sisters, Betty Ramos, Barbara Kelly, Mary Scandalito and Nancy Young, all of Gloucester.

The Ryan family would like to thank everyone at Oceanside Nursing Home for the care given to Pat over the past few years where she received the care and love she needed. The Ryan family would also like to thank the team from Care Dimensions who provided extra care and support to Pat during the last 5 months of her life.

A Funeral Mass for Patricia will be celebrated on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect Street, Gloucester.
