Peter P. Garrisi Sr. Obituary
Peter Paul Garrisi, 92, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, December 2, 2021. He was born in Gloucester, MA on November 29, 1929, the son of the late Garland Garrisi and Angeline (Zerillo) Garrisi. Peter was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jane (Dahlmer) Garrisi.
Peter graduated from Gloucester High School as Captain of the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps and was drafted by the United States Army to serve in the Korean War. Upon honorable completion of his military service, Peter married the love of his life, Jane. He and Jane moved to Detroit, Michigan where he worked in the automotive industry while attending The Detroit Institute of Technology. After graduating, he relocated to Utica, New York where he worked in the Aerospace Electronic Systems Department at General Electric for 34 years, retiring in 1990.
Peter's and Jane's devotion to each other was clear for all to see. Together, they raised six children. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he had a special bond with each of them. He was an avid gardener and took pride in his vegetables and fruit trees. He was a proud Sicilian American, spent many hours tracing family lineage, and a highlight of his travels was to his familial hometown of Balestrate, Sicily.
Peter is survived by his 6 children, Garland John Garrisi and his wife Margaret, of Scarsdale, NY, William Garrisi and his wife Jeanne, of Syracuse, NY, Peter Garrisi Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Rochester, NY, Angela (Garrisi) and Douglas Fullen of Ann Arbor, MI, Elizabeth Garrisi of Hornell, NY, Stephen Garrisi, of Gloucester, MA; 13 grandchildren, Kathryn, Sara, Shannon, Benjamin, William (Deaja), James (Erica), Nicole (Tyler), David (Jesslyn), Michelle (Kyle), N. Peter (Emily), Aileen (Jorge), Meaghan, and Danika; 8 great grandchildren; brothers Joseph, Anthony, Salvatore, and sister in law Ruth Olson. He is predeceased by his sisters Vincenza Garrisi, Martha Rose Aiello, and great granddaughter Isabella Jane.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Ann's Church on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. All attendees are required to wear face coverings during Mass. The burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. All attendees are asked to wear face coverings.
