Richard Gallant Jr. Obituary
Richard Gallant Jr., 61, of Gloucester, MA, husband of Maureen E. (Skoniecki) Gallant, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at his home. Rick was born in Gloucester, MA on October 27, 1960, the son of Richard Gallant Sr. and his wife Sandra Gallant.
He had many memories from his childhood, growing up on Green Street (for the locals, Portuguese Hill). He worked as a supervisor for the Gloucester Housing Authority and was a well-known face around the city.
Rick was a graduate of Gloucester High School, class of '78. Rick's biggest passion was his boat – whether he was cruising with his family down the Annisquam, out fishing with friends, or pulling his lobster traps. He enjoyed spending his Thursday nights playing darts with his buddies. His favorite escape was traveling to the Dominican with his wife. He was an avid Patriots fan who loved cracking jokes, his smile and laugh were contagious. Some knew him as "the Mayor of Winga", most knew him as "Mr. Fix-It'. He was always willing to drop what he was working on to help a friend in need or offer up advice with his endless skills.
He is survived by his wife, Maureen, of 32 years, their children Richard Gallant III, Kristy Gallant and her fiancé David Rosenberg, his sister Linda French and Larry French of Tennessee, his sister-in-law Kathy Hopkins and Tim Mathison, his niece Danielle Hopkins and Michael DeCoste, his nephew Marc Bona and his fiancé Jennifer LaFlam, two great nephews Caleb and Aiden DeCoste.
He was predeceased by his mother, Gloria Phillips, and his nephew Edward S. Hopkins.
His visiting hours will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022 from 4-6pm in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St. Gloucester, MA. Family and friends are cordially invited. His service and burial will be held privately at a later date (to be determined). In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to a charity of your choice.
