Richard J. Gibbs Sr. Obituary
Richard J. Gibbs Sr., 89, of Gloucester, MA passed away on January 11, 2022, at Care One in Peabody, MA. Richard was a devoted father, husband, grandfather, and friend to all.
Richard was born in Essex, Mass on April 20, 1932, to Margaret and John Gibbs.
Richard was married to the love of his life Patricia A. Gibbs (Robichaud) on September 23, 1951. They were married 68 years. The duo was inseparable and were always holding hands.
Dick was a Heating and Air Conditioning Contractor for the Local 17 Union and was proud of his 50-year pin for service. He built large hotels, hospitals, schools, prisons, and housing complexes. Dickie never went to college but was self-taught and learned everything he needed to know to be the best in the trade.
Dick was a member of Our Lady of Good Voyage and the Holy Name Society. He made sweet bread for many years to help Father Alves who was a very dear friend. Whatever Father Alves needed, Dickie and his buddies would get it done. Dick was also a member of the St. Peter's Club and the Elks.
His love of family, community, faith was evident in his everyday life. A street was named after him in honor of the father he was. His 4 children lived next to him, and this gave he and his wife Patricia much pleasure.
Dick would always donate his time and energy to whomever needed his assistance. He would often do pro-bono work for the various organizations throughout the city. He, Phil Consiglio, John Sargent, and Nick Imbrunone would be his side kicks and always eager to help.
Richard is survived by his daughter Beth and her husband Anthony Costanzo, Ronald Gibbs, and his wife Maria (Taveras) Gibbs, daughter Cheryl (Gibbs) Parsons and son Richard J. Gibbs Jr. and his wife Joanne P. (Harvey) Gibbs. Also, a sister-in-law Ann L. Gibbs and long- time friend Bobby Marvel. He also has many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In keeping with his wishes his funeral service will be held privately.
