Ronald P. Gallant Obituary
Ronald P. Gallant, 80, of Gloucester, husband of Susan J. (Mitchell) Gallant passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Born in Gloucester, MA., on June 22, 1943, son of the late Alfred and M. Madeline (Anderson) Gallant, Ron was educated in the Gloucester School system and worked for 23 years as a heavy equipment operator for the City of Gloucester.
Known by many as Ronnie, as well as by his familiar nickname Woody, he was a man of few words. However, you could routinely find him enjoying daily coffee with his buddies at the downtown Dunkin Donuts parking lot and distinctly jingling the loose change in his pocket.
Music was a constant in his life, especially the tunes of his youth in the 50's and the Blues, specifically B.B. King. Ron could often be seen enjoying music while cruising around town in his beloved Cadillac. His favorite pastime was hanging out on the Boulevard watching the boats and the greasy pole during Fiesta. Ron also enjoyed travelling to visit family in California, Oregon, Virginia, Nebraska, and Texas.
In his spare time, Ron enjoyed playing free cell, watching documentaries, country & western films and his favorite cartoons on television.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ron is survived by his wife of 58 years, Susan J. Gallant; two daughters, Janine Redmond and her husband Daniel, Justine Reid and her husband James; two sons, John Gallant and his wife Lori, James Gallant and his wife Lisa; nine grandchildren, Raegan & Trey Redmond, Candace & Avery Reid, Diandre & Tashon Gallant, Kassy, Madeline & Dylan Gallant; three step-grandchildren, Ashley Butler, Felicia Aiello & Tiffany Riportella; five great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Keira, Sloane, Sarellia and Milani; brother, Richard P. Gallant and his wife Sandra; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his sister, Carole Rosie and brother, Alfred Gallant Jr.
Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester will be held on Friday, November 24, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his name to Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty Street, Danvers, MA 01923.
