Samuel Asaro Obituary

Samuel Asaro, 96, of Gloucester, husband of Lousia (Balbo) Asaro, passed away peacefully on July 1st, at Kaplan Family Hospice House, with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Gloucester, MA on July 2, 1927, son of the late Peter and Catherine (Ciaramitaro) Asaro.

Sam attended Gloucester Schools. He served his country in the U.S. Navy for several years. Afterwards, he was the cook on fishing vessels: Regina Maria, Ida & Joseph, The Eagle, Pat Saint Marie, St. Anthony, and Maria Immaculata. He worked for East Coast Lobster and later co-owned Folsom Seafoods in Salem. Sam's final job was at the fish auction next to Captain Carlos where he worked until he was 84.

He loved cooking and singing, but most of all he loved taking care of his family, who he adored so much.

Sam was a member of the Gloucester Lodge of Elks, the Gloucester American Legion and was the second oldest living member of the St. Peter's Club.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Sam is survived by his wife of 74 years, Louisa Asaro; daughters, Kathleen Milne, Linda Burnham, Louise Bertolino, Pamela Couture and her husband Peter and Therese Asaro; sons, Peter Asaro and his wife Karen, Joseph Asaro and his wife Crisann; 11 grandchildren, Jeremy, Kristi, Sharon, Shawna, Lindsay, Melissa, Michael, Peter, Stacie, Stephanie and Olivia; 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Rosemarie Asaro; sister-in-law, Shirley Balbo, and son-in-law, Leo Burnham.

He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Peter Asaro and his wife Jean, Danny Asaro and his wife Cynthia and Vito Asaro; 3 sisters, Mary Pallazola and her husband Jerry, Rose Testaverde and her husband Tony, Marion Curcuru and her husband Joe, and son-in-law, David Milne.

His Memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Ann's Church, Holy Family Parish on Friday, July 7th at 11:00am. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
