Scott A. Wonkka Obituary

Scott A. Wonkka, 55, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

Scott was resilient, jovial, kind-hearted, hard-working, and fiercely loyal, a true father, son, brother, and friend. He lit up every room he entered. Above all else, his greatest joy was being a father to Emily, they were the best of friends.

An IT company manager, he lived an adventurous life that took him from the trading pits of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange to three months backpacking through Costa Rica with his brother, with years spent in San Diego, Colorado, and Florida along the way. He loved nothing more than a good road trip.

He is survived by his beloved daughter, Emily Rae Wonkka; his younger brother, Todd S. Wonkka; his sister-in-law, Marissa; his nephew, Kade; his niece, Kanon; his stepfather, Stephen D. Gillis; the mother of his daughter, Joy Hurlburt; his cat, AJ; and many devoted aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth A. Gillis; his father, Waino A. Wonkka; and his good friend Gary Thornton.A. Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to be announced.
