Serafina M. Marino Obituary

Serafina M. (Nicastro) Marino, 90, wife of the late Capt. Joseph S. Marino formerly of Gloucester, MA passed away peacefully on Friday, June 30, 2023, at Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Beverly, MA.

She was born in Gloucester on October 26, 1932, daughter of the late Phillip and Grace (Parisi) Nicastro.

She attended Gloucester Schools. Sophie worked for many years as rectory staff at Sacred Heart Church in Manchester, MA.

Sophie always took her annual trip to Florida to visit her daughter Sandra. She loved walking, cooking, and going to the beach. She also enjoyed going to the St. Peter's Fiesta and the Novenas. Spending time with her family was important to her and was especially proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Madonna Del Rosario Society, the Gloucester Senior Center, and the Visitation Parish/Sacred Heart Church. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Serafina is survived by her children, Joanne Interrante and her husband Sam, Gaye Brown, Sandra Marino-Brown, Michelle Marino, Danielle Amaral and her husband Barry, Joseph Marino Jr. and his wife Valerie; grandchildren, Sandy Interrante, Michael Interrante, Kelly Cournoyer and her husband Danny, Joe Marino, Angela Marino, and Elise Amaral; great-grandchildren, Anthony Interrante, Lilly Interrante, Chase Poulen, Colin Cournoyer and Cameron Cournoyer; her brothers, John Nicastro, Sam Nicastro, Joe Nicastro and his wife Marion; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff at Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center and Care Dimension for the care and loving support.

She was predeceased by her infant son, Michael; son-in-law, Mark Brown and brother, Jerry Nicastro.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Ann's Church, Holy Family Parish on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 12:30 p.m. The burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There will be no visiting hours.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her name to Visitation Parish-Sacred Heart Church, 62 School Street, Manchester-by-the Sea, MA 01944.
