Sheila M. Rider Obituary
Sheila McCue Rider of Gloucester MA died on Sunday, April 28, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Thomas McCue and Katherine Carroll McCue of Gloucester, MA.
Sheila led a happy and adventurous life. She graduated from Gloucester High School in 1952 and received her bachelor's from Newton College of the Sacred Heart. She was one of the first female computer programmers at MITRE Corporation in the 1950s. She moved to New York, where she met and married Michael Rider Sr. They moved their family to upstate New York, where she went on to become the first female Ford dealership owner in the country following the death of her husband. She was a real estate broker in Cambridge, New York until her retirement. She enjoyed traveling, civic activities, and more than anything spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Mary Elizabeth (Susie), Kathryn (Doug), Michael Jr. (Caroline), and Carolyn along with grandchildren, Harry (Savannah), Max, Charlie, Jack, Maggie, Matthew (Caroline) and her sister, Carroll (Ray) Charette.
She is predeceased by her husband, Michael Sr. and her sisters, Katherine Engelhardt and Eileen Duffy.
Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect Street, Gloucester, MA on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 11 a.m. The burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. A memorial in Cambridge, New York will occur at a later date.
